AIA Life: heavyweight in protection-type

Listen

Life insurance products are by and large composed of the savings-type and protection-type ones, with the trend moving from the former to the latter over the past several years.

AIA Life Korea strives to preempt the ongoing shift this year by strengthening its marketing activities for protection-type products under a unique campaign dubbed ``Rebalance Your Life.’’

Toward that end, the company has strengthened its manpower particularly sales agents and telemarketers and the focus is quality rather than quantity.

``It is significant to jack up the number of our salespeople. What is more important is, however, to educate and train existing employees through specialized systems,’’ an AIA official said.

``The prerequisites to do so _ we will encourage our workers to reduce the turnover ratio. Based on such efforts of beefing up face-to-face channels, we hope to become the premier agency.’’

In addition, the insurer introduced simplified applications midway through last year for its policyholders, who want to buy additional insurance products of AIA, so that the screening processes can be accelerated.

Early this year, it also opened an online channel where people can be customers of AIA at any time and at any place.

AIA Korea is an affiliate of AIA Group, which has units in a total of 14 countries in the Asia-Pacific regions such as Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China, the Philippines, Australia and Indonesia.

It was established 90 years ago in Shanghai and currently boasts of assets of $115.7 billion as of the end of this May.

AIA Korea, which is headed by CEO Daniel Costello, opened in 1987 and its assets approach the 10 trillion won mark.
