Samsung Electronics announced that it has received the “Antibacterial Ceramic Inside” certification from Hohenstein, a Germany-based research and testing laboratory, for a ceramic interior that it developed for its ovens and microwave ovens.

The laboratory which specializes in biotechnology related to sanitization tested Samsung’s ovens with ceramic inside, in the same way as it is used in home kitchens, and affirmed their antibacterial abilities.

It marks the first time for Samsung to be granted the use of the “Antibacterial Certificate & Quality Label” on kitchen equipment.

Hohenstein analyzed the durability of the oven and handiness for cleaning inhibited germs and odors. It added the antibacterial certificate was granted as it was determined that the product is safe in terms of sanitation.

The ceramic interior conducts heat evenly within the oven, to reach deep inside the food thus also improving cooking quality. In earlier tests, the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science affirmed the ceramic interiors 7.5 times more durable than conventional oven interiors made of stainless steel or coated with epoxy.

“We will use the ceramic interiors in all our kitchen equipment to forge ahead in the global market,” Suh Byung-sam, senior vice president of Samsung Electronics said.
