Samsung Heavy wins 659 bil. won drill ship order

Samsung Heavy Industries Co., South Korea's No. 3 shipbuilder, said Thursday that it has received a 659 billion won ($615 million) order to build a drill ship.

Under the deal with an undisclosed customer, Samsung Heavy will deliver the vessel, used to explore for oil and gas wells in deep waters, by October 2013, the shipbuilder said in a regulatory filing.

Early this month, the company also won a 1.2 trillion won deal to build two drill ships.

The shipbuilder is targeting orders worth $11.5 billion this year, and it said earlier it was in talks with customers to win orders valued at $7.2 billion. So far this year, Samsung Heavy has won deals valued at $4.7 billion.

Shares of Samsung Heavy were trading at 48,900 won on the Seoul bourse as of 10:00 a.m., up 0.51 percent. (Yonhap)
