Mirae Asset Life Insurance, a powerhouse for retirement insurance products, takes part in various corporate social responsibility programs to support the underprivileged. The local insurer buys rice directly from rural villages to give them the most benefits and engages in habitat programs, which build houses for homeless people.

Mirae Asset Life has supported a rural village called Cheonhyeon in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, helping farmers at harvest time and buying rice produced in the area. The insurer donates the rice to social welfare centers supporting both a rural village and the underprivileged in the city.

The insurer collects the last digit of employees’ salaries, and provides free lunch boxes to senior citizens who live alone. It is expanding its boundary in donating the fund to starving overseas children. Moreover, workers at the company volunteer in cleaning and serving free meals at more than 30 social welfare institutions a month.

Employees from the insurance arm of Mirae Asset Group builds accomodation for low-income families, who do not have their own houses in cooperation with Habitat for Humanity Korea, a local branch of the international nonprofit Christian housing organization. The employees build new toilets, repair roofs, redo flooring, and paper the ceilings of the houses.

In winter, executives and employees of Mirae Asset Life deliver briquettes to low-income families who use them for heating. They also make kimchi and provide the traditional Korea food for the underprivileged and senior citizenss who live by themselves.

Mirae Asset Life also cares for children, who will lead society in the future. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with ChildFund Korea, a local branch of the international child welfare organization, in October to support them more efficiently. Both sides agreed to run social welfare programs together.

Mirae Asset Life also launched donation insurance products in June, which provides insurance benefits for designated institutions. Currently, three products ― Perfect Plan Insurance, Well-ending Insurance and Variable Insurance ― are designed as charitable products.

Mirae Asset Life has vowed to keep its engagement in the social programs active.

“We will do our best to give our neighbors practical help with various corporate social responsibility activities,” the insurer said in a statement recently.

Since its establishment in 1988, Mirae Asset Life has been growing as a life insurance company providing firm assurance to clients through its substance orientated management.
