Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest maker of memory chips and flat-screen TVs, said Thursday that it had posted an estimated operating profit of 4.8 trillion won ($4.3 billion) for the July-September period.
The preliminary estimate represents a 13.7 percent growth from a profit of 4.22 trillion won a year earlier, Samsung said in a regulatory filing. It represents a decline from the company's record operating profit of 5.01 trillion won during the previous three months.
Third-quarter consolidated sales are estimated at 40 trillion won, up 11.5 percent from a year ago, according to the electronics giant’s earnings guidance.
Samsung, also the world's No. 2 mobile phone maker and the largest supplier of liquid-crystal display (LCD) panels, plans to disclose its third-quarter earnings later this month.
