Samsung Thales Co. has signed a deal with a Kazakh state firm to develop a 152-millimeter self-propelled howitzer for the central Asian country's army.
Under the $200 million deal with state-run Kazakhstan Engineering, the nation’s largest defense contractor said Sunday it will work with Samsung Techwin to turn Kazakhstan's 152-mm towed howitzers into self-propelled guns.
Samsung Thales President Kim In-soo and Kazakhstan's Defense Minister Adilbek Dzhaksybekov signed a memorandum of understanding to that end in Gumi, 261 kilometers south of Seoul, the Korean company said in a release.
