The presidential office said Thursday it had appointed Kim Jong-chang, consultant of the law firm Lee & Ko, as the new governor of the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS).
After majoring in business commerce at Seoul National University, Kim started his public service career at the former Ministry of Finance in the 1970s.
Prior to serving as chief executive of the state-invested Industrial Bank of Korea, Kim was a deputy governor of the FSS, and a standing commissioner of the former Financial Supervisory Commission.
He also taught business administration at Ewha Womans University, and was an outside director at Hana Bank.
