Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman Kim Dong-jin and CAS CEO Kim Dong-jin were named the winners of the 2007 Techno CEO Award by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The Techno Award honors two corporate leaders each year who make outstanding contributions to the nation in research and development of industrial technologies. The Hyundai Motor executive won the award in the large-size corporate category, while the CAS CEO was honored in the small- and medium- size corporate sector. Their names are different in Chinese characters, though they are spelled the same in Korean.
Hyundai Motor's Kim joined the company in 1978 as a mechanical engineer. He led the K-1 battle tank project at Hyundai Precision Industries where he worked until 1993 and then served for Hyundai Aerospace until 2000. He became the vice chairman of Hyundai Motor in 2003 and since then has led the company to become the world's sixth largest carmaker.
Kim of CAS, an electronic scale maker, has been the CEO of the company since 1983. CAS is a leading player in the electronic scales field, holding 70 percent of the domestic market and 20 percent of the global market.
The ministry will give 10 million won to each winner.
