Dell is seeking to rock the local laptop market with its two tailored products.

On Tuesday, Dell unveiled its Tablet PCs for the first time in South Korea. The Latitude XT is impressively lightweight at less than 1.6 kilograms and is armed with three-gigabyte DDR2 SDRAM and 64-gigabyte solid-state drives in a 12.1-inch wide screen, according to company officials.

``I hope that the Tablet PC market will get a boost with the launching of the Latitude though it accounts for only 1 percent of the total,’’ Kim In-kyo, Dell’s South Korean representative, told reporters at a press conference held in central Seoul, Tuesday.

``The launch follows similar moves by Samsung Electronics and Toshiba,’’ Kim added.

Separately, Dell introduced a specific PC lineup targeting Asian consumer markets ― Vostro 1200.

``The Vostro 1200, with a price tag of 999,000 won, is a laptop that is specifically tailored for business environments with less than 30 employees,’’ Kim said.

The Vostro 1200 is a notebook with a 12.1-inch WXGA wide screen and comes standard with a dual-layer DVD burner, while offering a variety of optional features equipped with a maximum of four-gigabyte DDR2 SDRAM chip.
