Those in their 30s represent the largest consumer segment for banks as they visit banks' offline and online outlets more often than those in any other age group and have more deposits at banks, a survey shows.

According to the survey, released by Kookmin Bank-affiliated research institute Tuesday, 30-somethings are the most active users of banks' financial services.

The bank compiled the data after choosing 1,000 most loyal customers from its client list and checking the financial products they prefer.

Of them, 30-somethings accounted for 25.4 percent, followed by 23.9 percent in their 40s, 16.9 percent in their 20s and 14.4 percent in their 50s, the survey said.

``Usually, 30-somethings have a greater interest in investment products sold at banks and tend to use online banking for simple transactions,'' a Kookmin official said.

On average, clients aged between 30-39 have 2.93 financial products in Kookmin, while those in their 40s and 50s have 2.90 and 2.79, respectively. Demand deposit accounts are the most popular product for all age groups, it said.

As people get older, they tend to show more interest in non-banking products like pension funds and insurance. On a stock market boom this year, fund sales increased for all age groups.

Kookmin extended the largest amount of loans to those in their 40s with stable income sources. They are also the most active users of credit cards, the survey said.
