Cheong Wa Dae called Thursday for the convening of a fresh round of six-nation talks on North Korea's denuclearization as soon as possible to help accelerate the disablement of the North's nuclear program.

Under the agreement reached by the two Koreas, the U.S., China, Japan and Russia on Oct. 3, chief delegates are supposed to meet within this year to discuss the agenda for a gathering of foreign ministers from the six countries.

Presidential spokesman Cheon Ho-seon told a press briefing that China is still discussing the schedule for the next session of the talks with the relevant countries. ``South Korea wants the talks to be held as soon as possible,'' he said.
