Hyosung has developed an advanced circuit breaker, for the first time in the country's history, that can be used in high voltage electricity transmission. The company's new 1,100-kilovolt gas insulated switchgear (GIS) ― the second of its kind in the world after Japan ― has not yet been commercialized, but has potential to be widely utilized in China and other countries with a large landmass for long-distance electricity supply.

Hyosung said its new circuit breaker, which prevents electrical overload in the transmission of high voltage electricity over 1,000 kilovolt/amperes, will be in high demand as China, India and other emerging economies are planning to build high voltage electricity supply network

s to meet growing power needs.

It estimates the market for high voltage circuit breakers will reach $6.5 billion over the next 15 years worldwide and plans to first target Asia. Hyosung executives said the development of 1,100-kilovolt GIS shows the company holds top-notch technology in high voltage circuit breaker manufacturing, adding it will introduce advanced transformers and other parts.
