Ssangyong Motor Co., South Korea's fourth-largest automaker, plans to introduce a premium sedan with
a five-liter engine early next year, as part of efforts to diversify its product range, a company official said Friday.
The new model, code-named W200, will have a seven-speed transmission and greater interior space than Ssangyong's luxury sedan Chairman, the official said on the customary condition of anonymity.
Earlier this month, Ssangyong said it had agreed with its union to raise the capacity of the sole plant in the port city of Pyeongtaek to 330,000 from some 200,000 units a year.
Ssangyong, 51.33 percent owned by China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp., will develop five new engines and, based on them, develop 30 new SUVs and sedans by 2011, the company said earlier.
