The head of Korea's stock exchange departed for Vietnam on Monday to attend a ceremony marking the launch of a market system Korea helped implement in the Southeast Asian country.
Chairman of the Korea Exchange (KRX) Jeong Eun-bo was set to attend the event, to be held in Ho Chi Minh City in southern Vietnam, later in the day, along with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other government officials from Vietnam, the operator of the Korean bourse said in a release.
The system is aimed at modernizing the IT infrastructure used to process various activities in Vietnam's capital markets, such as stock transactions and depository services. The system started operations in early May.
After the event, Jeong will travel to Thailand on Tuesday and meet his Thai counterpart.
The two will explore avenues for technology cooperation while checking the progress of a clearings and settlements system procurement deal signed in April, according to the KRX.
