According to the bank, its executive candidate recommendation committee picked Park as the final candidate for the bank’s next CEO during a meeting held last Friday. The committee recommended a one-year term starting on Jan. 8 next year, to ensure consistency with the SC Group CEO appointment process.

The committee ― consisting of three outside directors ― evaluated Park's abundant professional experience highly, specifically his insights, expertise, excellent communication skills and outstanding leadership, according to the bank. They stated that among the candidates, Park received the highest evaluation as he has also consistently improved the bank's financial performance.

“Since his appointment to the top post in 2015, Park has continuously improved the financial status of the bank through strategies tailored to Korea and actively led employees to share the vision of the bank,” the committee noted.

They also pointed out that he has promoted values such as equality, respect and inclusion as the core cultural values of the bank.

Born in 1955, Park majored in economics at Kyung Hee University. After joining SC in August 1979, he built up expertise in various front-line branches over a period of more than 20 years. He held key positions in bank operations, including retail finance, before being appointed as the chief in 2015. He was reappointed in 2018 and 2021.

The bank is scheduled to confirm his reappointment following approvals at meetings of shareholders on Oct. 18 and the board of directors on Oct. 31.
