Shinhan Financial Group announced on Friday that it hosted a group-wide women's leadership conference for the fifth year straight in 2022.

It said that the SHeroes Conference took place at its headquarters in central Seoul, Thursday, attracting about 100 female leaders from the banking group with the goal of promoting women's empowerment and expanding the networks of the participants.

The company came up with “SHeroes,” a combination of the words “she” and “heroes,” in 2018 to integrate more female executives into the male-dominated office culture.

The 100 guests included those who have completed a leadership training program run by Shinhan Financial Group over the past three years.

This year's program was participated in by 33 people, under the four themes of confidence, opportunity, reinforcement of relationships and embracement of gender diversity.

The 2023 program consisted of mentoring services and lectures, among others.

“Every participant in the SHeroes Conference represents the greatest achievement made by the conference,” Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Cho Yong-byoung said.

“I expect the participants to grow as key members of our company and help other aspiring female leaders to demonstrate their capabilities.”

In January, Shinhan Financial Group was included this year's Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index, which recognizes businesses committed to transparency in gender reporting and promoting women's rights.

It was the fourth year in a row that Shinhan received the honor.

The banking group has cooperated with the government in supporting more than 5,000 women who have experienced career interruptions, along with 123 childcare centers across the country.
