Hana Financial Group has donated 15 billion won ($11.5 million) to the Community Chest of Korea. Its total donations to the chest so far has surpassed 80 billion won. The financial group said that the donation for the underprivileged comes as part of its efforts to fulfill its social responsibility and attain the goal of “Happy Financing” through sharing.
According to Hana, 15 companies affiliated with the group funded the 15 billion won for the donation, which is 3 billion won more than the previous year's donation. Hana's efforts for sharing come while the prolonged pandemic and economic downturn here and abroad have increased the number of those in need of help while leaving the corporate sector with less room for such donations. The 15 billion won will be spent to tackle problems in communities, support households in crisis and provide social care and education while supporting those in need.
“As economic surroundings have worsened, there are more neighbors who need a helping hand. We will continue our sharing efforts jointly with the Community Chest of Korea to tackle social problems and support the underprivileged,” Hana Financial Group Chairman Ham Young-joo said during his visit to the charity's headquarters in Seoul, Thursday.
He added that the group will continue supporting single moms, neighbors with disabilities and low-income households so that they can stand on their own, as well as actively taking part in tackling problems faced by local communities, to accomplish the group's mission of providing financial services for Growing Together, Sharing Happiness.
Hana has been focusing on its environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) efforts, offering diverse programs such as support for startups and social enterprises, internships for young people, environment education and sports and culture programs.
