A human face on a snake’s body captured on film

A Youtube video featuring what appears to be an animal with a snake’s body and a human-like face has attracted hundreds of thousands of views since it was first uploaded on Jan. 7.

The supposedly part-reptilian, part-mammalian creature was filmed at an Indonesian village. The video, titled “Alien creature found in Indonesia” is just under two-minutes-long.

The somewhat blurry footage shows a creature with two ears, round eyes and blonde hair, evocative of a human or an ape, but its body is that of a snake, and it is even coiled. Further, attached to its upper body are what seem to be two webbed feet.

Romanian daily, the Libertatea reported that the creature was killed in order to be further studied.

Youtube users have seen fit to suggest that the creature is an alien or a mutant. Others, however, have opined that the video has been fabricated for commercial purposes, or, as the first commenter wrote: “a snake was eating some kind of monkey …”.

최근 인도네시아 한 마을에서 파충류와 포유류의 생김새를 섞어놓은 듯한, 지금까지 단 한 번도 발견된 적 없는 동물의 잡혔다는 주장이 나와 눈길을 모으고 있다.

동영상 공유 사이트 유투브에는 지난 7일(한국시간) “인도네시아에서 발견된 외계인을 닮은 괴물”이란 제목의 2분 여 동영상이 올라 네티즌들을 깜짝 놀라게 했다.

다소 흐릿한 영상에는 파충류와 포유류의 생김새를 절묘하게 섞은 생김새를 가진 동물의 모습이 담겼다. 두 귀와 동그란 눈은 사람이나 원숭이의 것을 연상케 하지만 놀랍게도 몸은 똬리를 튼 뱀의 형체다. 하지만 상체에는 물 갈퀴같은 발 2개가 달려있다.

이 소식을 전한 루마니아 언론매체 리베르타티아는 “지금까지 발견된 동물 중 가장 흉측한 생김새로 인도네시아 사람들을 공포에 떨게 했다.”고 설명하면서 “자세한 연구를 위해서 사살됐다.”고 덧붙였다.

영상을 본 많은 이들은 독특한 생김새를 두고 외계인이나 돌연변이일 가능성을 제기하며 흥미로워 했다. 하지만 일부는 아예 이 영상이 돈벌이를 위해 조작됐거나, 뱀이 원숭이를 잡아먹다가 잡힌 것이라는 의견을 달아 공감을 사기도 했다.
