Moon Sung-min announced Thursday that he's agreed to play for VfB Friedrichshafen in the Bundesliga, a German volleyball league.
He said he signed a contract with the team Wednesday that will give him 340 million won over two years. He will also be given a house, car, round-trip plane ticket and tutor for English and German.
Moon, a 1.98-meter attacker from Kyunggi University, will become the second South Korean to play in an international volleyball league. Lee Sung-hee, the manager of GS Caltex, played with Bayer in Germany from 1998 to 2000.
Moon's new team, Friedrichshafen, founded in 1901, is the most famous club in the Bundesliga. Friedrichshafen achieved a triple crown in 2007, winning the Bundesliga, German Volleyball Association (DVV) Cup and Indesit European (CEV) Champions League. Friedrichshafen coach Moculescu Sterlian also leads the German men's national team.
``My ambition is to be a Park Ji-sung in volleyball,'' Moon said, reffering to the Korean footballer who plays for Manchester United. ``I want to go to the Italian league after I play well in Germany.''
Though Moon did not get permission to play in Germany from the Korea Volleyball Association (KVA), his agent anticipates his contract will not be a problem because his college has agreed to the transfer.
If the KVA allows him to transfer, Moon will leave for Germany on Sept 4.
