The police department in Ilsan district just north of Seoul has opened a department dedicated to foreigners.
Ilsan Dongbu Police Station has introduced a “Foreign Affairs Section,” according to the force Sunday.
Comprised of three dedicated inspectors, the section aims to provide security and interpretation services for foreign residents in the district in the city of Goyang.
Many foreigners live in the area, with about 320 local companies that have hired foreign employees. More than 4,000 residents from outside Korea were living in the area as of late 2016.
The city annually hosts “International Horticulture Goyang Korea,” around Ilsan Lake Park.
This outdoor flower exhibition attracts participants from around the world.
“Because the number of foreign residents in areas inside Ilsan-gu keeps growing, we will accordingly analyze rising demands and act to meet these needs,” said police station chief Kim Seong-hee, according to Kiho Ilbo.
