Man killed by bullet train in Daejeon
A 51-year-old man has been run over and killed by a KTX bullet train near Panam-dong, Daejeon, the police said Tuesday.
The accident took place at 9:56 p.m. Monday as the man, identified only as Kim, was hit by a KTX train bound for Seoul, after departing from Busan. He was killed immediately.
A train engineer said he saw the victim walking along the railway but failed to stop the train, according to the police.
“The family of the victim said Kim has been mentally ill and often ran away from home,” a police officer said.
The accident delayed the operation of scheduled trains for about an hour, causing inconveniences for more than 200 passengers.
