Professional massage therapist Park Chan-hong manages the Wellness Center of WE Hotel Jeju, known for its various therapy programs that help guests and visitors boost their immune response.

Since he joined the hotel as the manager of the Wellness Center in February 2017, he has designed customized healthcare therapies, considering the health condition of each customer, in a bid to maximize effectiveness of the wellness programs.

“I focus on communicating with customers to adjust the order and time of the programs to satisfy each individual,” Park said in an interview with The Korea Times.

Park graduated from Cortiva Institute, one of the largest dedicated massage therapy and skin care school groups in the United States, in 2009.

He has earned a certificate from the U.S.-based National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork, as well as the Titleist Performance Institute (Level 1) certification.

WE Hotel Jeju is operated by Jeju Halla Hospital, the resort island's largest general hospital.

Park said one of the representative wellness programs offered by the hotel is the “HaeAm HYDRO” program operated in the aqua meditation pool, in which guests can get a massage while listening to music for mind and body rest.

The pool maintains a constant temperature of 37 degrees Celsius, which being about the same temperature as amniotic fluid, is thought by some to promote psychological comfort.

“Customers might not be familiar with the HaeAm HYDRO, but those who had gotten our hydrotherapy called it the best therapy they have ever experienced. They said the program made them feel really at ease,” he said.

Other programs include the aqua circuit and mind therapy programs.

The aqua circuit calls for guests to move around six pools including Micro Bubble Aqua, Water Stone and Dream Bath in accordance with their body type to speed up their metabolism and improve skin elasticity.

The mind therapy program offers sound therapy, also known as sound healing, which helps improve the healing ability of cells throughout the body through sound waves sent by crystal singing bowls.

“I find my job worth doing when the customers who had experienced our wellness programs visited the center again and have achieved improvement in their health and stress relief,” Park said.
