Coway's water, ice purifiers in high demand amid heat wave

Home appliance maker Coway is operating its ice and water purifier production line in Yugu, South Chungcheong Province, at full capacity amid a continuing heat wave in the country, which has increased demand, the company said Monday.
According to Coway, its sales of ice and water purifiers soared 50 percent, year-on-year, between May and July this year and 20 percent in July.
“The number of consumers looking for ice and water purifiers has been steadily increasing amid continuing record heat waves every summer. This year, the product's production line at Yugu plant, located in Gongju, South Chungcheong Province, has been in full operation since May in time for the peak of the summer season,” a Coway official said.
In the past, the ice and water purifier was popular among Coway's loyal customers. However, it recently became one of the most sought-after products with increasing demand for premium home appliances and as a consequence of the extreme weather.

Coway is currently leading the local ice and water purifier market with various product models. It offers various sizes and even a model that includes sparkling water.
Its Icon Ice Water Purifier is the best seller. It is designed to be the smallest, having reduced its size by 40 percent compared to previous Coway's products. In addition, many of its functions have been upgraded.
The company has applied its patented dual-speed ice-making technology to significantly improve the speed of its ice-making abilities. It only takes 12 minutes for the machine to make ice and it can produce a maximum of 600 ice cubes on a daily basis.
Also, users can conveniently set the machine to produce ice in two sizes: large ice cubes ― 10 grams ― and small ice cubes ― 7 grams.
The company's stand-type ice water purifier Prime Ice Max model is gaining popularity among consumers looking for a large-capacity machine. It produces a maximum of 980 ice cubes on a daily basis, equivalent to 10.3 kilograms, and 3.8 kilograms of them can be stored in its ice storage compartment.
