Ssangyong Motor named Vice President Choi Johng-sik, head of its sales planning division, as new president Wednesday. He will succeed outgoing CEO Lee Yoo-il.
Lee offered to step down last month after the successful launch of its first compact SUV, the Tivoli.
Choi has been working in the marketing since 1977. He served as the executive vice president of Hyundai Motor America in 2004. The Seoul National University graduate also served as vice chairman of Hwatae Automobile Group, China.
He joined Ssangyong Motor in 2010 after CEO Lee was tapped for the top job in 2009.
Choi has been regarded as someone who contributed to boosting the company’s sales by achieving robust Korando C’s sales.
Outgoing CEO Lee will be vice chairman of the company for the next two years, working as an advisor.
