A jaguar escaped its enclosure at New Orleans' Audubon Zoo on Saturday morning (local time) and killed six other animals.
According to local media, the 3-year-old male jaguar, named Valero, escaped its habitat around 7:20 a.m. and attacked four alpacas, an emu and a fox in their nearby habitats. All of them died.
"The animal care team is devastated by this tragic loss," a release from the zoo said. "Today is a difficult day for the Audubon family."
The zoo was closed Saturday but said it will reopen Sunday.
The zoo was investigating how the jaguar managed to escape his enclosure.
