The original cast of Japanese animation series "Ghost in the Shell" will dub its Hollywood film remake, starring Scarlett Johansson
Three key original cast members will provide voices to the remake, including Atsuko Tanaka, the voice of the main character Major Motoko Kusanagi.
A movie executive said, "The casting director decided to use the original cast to maintain the animation's originality."
Japan is well known for dubbing Hollywood movies, including "Prometheus" (2012), "Jurassic World" (2015) and "Beauty and the Beast" (2017).
But this is the first time in Japan that the original voice actors have been used in the remake of a Japanese animated production or movie.
Some Japanese Twitter users claim the latest dubbing is Hollywood's attempt to avoid the criticism of "whitewashing" the original work, in which all the characters are Asian.
Fans had also voiced concern when Hollywood film companies Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks said last year that they planned to use non-Asian actors in the remake.
The Japanese-dubbed version is due to be released only in Japan this month.
