Former BMW Korea CEO Kim Hyo-joon has become vice chairman of Daechang Group, a major non-ferrous metal manufacturer, according to the group, Wednesday.

Kim, who had been an adviser for BMW Korea until last month, was appointed to the position at Daechang on Tuesday.

Daechang said it expects Kim's experiences in the global car company and successful projects will help Daechang improve its global competitiveness. It added that it anticipates Kim's presence will enable it to top the domestic market and even become a global market leader.

Daechang Group Chairman Cho Si-young welcomed Kim, saying his position in the group will lead to greater success.

Daechang Group started with Daechang Corp. founded in 1974 and has grown to diversify its non-ferrous metal businesses under five different companies. They include three listed companies —Daechang, Seowon and Essentech.

The group retains registered assets worth 1.5 trillion won ($1.15 billion) and has exported $300 million worth of its products.

Daechang said Kim will still hold his previous titles as a special appointment professor at Yonsei University School of Business, chief of the board at ADeKo (Alumninetzwerk Deutschland-Korea), a Germany-Korea network, and honorary chairman of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
