Top business leaders dined with U.S. President Donald Trump at Cheong Wa Dae to discuss a range of key issues including the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA).
According to the presidential office, President Moon Jae-in invited 122 dignitaries from both countries to the dinner, Tuesday.
Seventy top Korean government officials and businessmen sat around 12 tables while 52 Washington officials joined the event to celebrate Trump's first state visit to Korea.
President Moon and the first lady were joined by U.S. President Trump and first lady Melania Trump at the head table. National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon, Supreme Court Chief Justice Kim Meong-su and Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha also sat at the table along with U.S. senior adviser to the president Jared Kushner, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and acting U.S. Ambassador to Korea Marc Knapper.
Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Park Yong-maan sat along with Washington officials including White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, White House Security Adviser Dina Powell and U.S. Forces Korea Commander General Vincent Brooks.
Hyundai Motor Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won had dinner together with U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and U.S. National Security Council director Josh Cartin.
Hanwha Group Chairman Kim Seung-youn sat with main opposition Liberty Korea Party floor leader Chung Woo-taik and People's Party floor leader Kim Dong-chul. White House deputy press secretary Lindsay Walters and Trump's personal aide John McEntee also joined the table.
President Trump has questioned the effectiveness of the KORUS FTA, claiming the U.S. trade deficit with Korea jeopardizes the U.S. economy.
Bilateral FTA renegotiations are expected to be one of the biggest items on the agenda for the two countries, and the nation's business leaders discussed related issues with President Trump and Washington officials during the event, emphasizing the importance of the KORUS FTA for the mutual growth of both countries.
