Hyundai Motor Group unveiled an animated video called "Mobile Living Space," which it says will redefine future mobility as an organic connection mechanism between vehicles and buildings.

The four-minute clip shows a mobility vehicle that is attached to a residential building as an extension of the home space.

An animated character Logan goes into what initially seemed like a small room that has a desk and a chair. It then detaches from a building and self-drives to an office.

The attached or "docked" vehicle serves as an integral part of the living space, Hyundai said, enhancing the living environment.

The space can function as an air conditioner, or an entertainment room where audio and video functions of users' cell phones or home smart devices can be mirrored on a larger screen and speakers. It can even provide power in emergencies, using its fuel cell as a generator.

"Mobility will provide services and life experiences that are more attentive to the needs of customers, as mediated by new technologies that create more advanced smart future living spaces," the firm said. "Cars will not be just means of transportation, but living spaces."

The extended living space is a concept already showcased at the previous Consumer Electronics Shows (CES) in Las Vegas.

In 2020, it unveiled the concept of connecting buildings and mobility vehicles in a video "Active House" and has since continued research and development.

The smart home space concept suggested how the car can integrate itself with the living space when docked, before becoming a mobile living space when customers need to move.

"Our research and technological advancement efforts will continue to foster robotics, future aviation, smart cities, autonomous driving and connectivity," the firm said. "The quality of life will be elevated in accordance with the changing definition of mobility."

The latest innovative solution can help with overpopulation and limited living space problems, Hyundai said, making car owners' lives easier.

Hyundai aims to elevate the "hyper-connectivity" functions so that car owners find commuting not a waste of time but rather part of an uninterrupted flow of working and living.

"Future technologies will focus on advanced communication between cars and traffic systems, freeing car owners from the stress of heavy daily traffic congestion. They will be able to relax reading books or listening to music."
