Osstem Implant has emerged as the world's largest seller of dental implants in terms of sales volume.

Korea's leading implant manufacturer sold 2.33 million implants in 2017, the largest among global makers, followed by Zimmer Biomet with 1.88 million and Nobel Biocare with 1.87 million, according to Prof. Kim Bong-ju of the Seoul National University Dental Hospital.

Kim cited the "Dental Implant Competitor Insight 2018" report by Toronto-based Millennium Research Group, the world's largest provider of medical device market research.

"It's a significant achievement that Osstem Implant has become a global brand that dentists around the world use the most," Kim said.

In 2018, the company also stood at the top of the list with sales of 2.86 million implant fixtures. Osstem sells products in more than 70 countries and operates local corporations in 25 countries.

Its rise to the top global position reflects its "passion for R&D and high-quality clinical education" it provides to local and overseas dentists, the company said in a statement.

"Our constant efforts in R&D are key to the growth in implant sales. We will continue to develop skills needed for successful dental care and produce the best quality products from a customer's perspective," it said.

Osstem Implant has been expanding product development not only for dental implants and dental equipment, but also for other fields that are essential for dental care.
