SPC Group said Thursday it opened a new Baskin-Robbins store in a newly built hanok, or traditional Korean house, in Samcheong-dong, one of the most popular tourist areas in Seoul, famous for its numerous galleries, restaurants and shops as well as its hanok village.
Featuring traditional roof tiles, wooden pillars and a stone wall, the U.S. ice cream chain's Samcheong-dong store has ample outdoor seating, so customers can use a wider space than at other Baskin-Robbins stores here.
There is also art on display inspired by Korea's traditional art of hemp weaving.
SPC has come up with three types of special desserts and four types of special beverages, which are only available at the new store.
All of them are made with traditional Korean ingredients, according to the company.
"The Samcheong Madang store is a space which enables customers to enjoy sweet ice cream in a yard which is regarded as a space for people to gather for a long time," an SPC official said. "We will continue to come up with special new desserts and concept stores that deliver different experiences."
SPC will offer discounts on certain items until Nov. 19 to celebrate the opening of the new store.
Customers will be able to enjoy the three types of special desserts at a 30 percent discount. They will also be able to buy a quarter-size ice cream for 11,500 won ($10), 4,000 won lower than the original price, at the store until the promotion ends.
