Hyundai Motor offered a glimpse of the future look of its electric vehicles (EVs), unveiling the concept electric vehicle named "45" at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, Tuesday.

The event was attended by Hyundai Motor Group Executive Vice Chairman Chung Euisun, his first visit to an international motor show since he took the current post as the group's de facto leader.

Hyundai Motor said it will showcase the 45 concept EV, the Veloster N ETCR electric race car and a number of new vehicles at the show, which will be open to the public from Thursday to Sept. 22.

The 45 is based on the company's first concept car, the Pony Coupe, which was revealed 45 years ago at the 1974 Turin Motor Show.

The retro-futuristic concept car is based on the company's Electric-Global Modular Platform, which will be introduced next year. The platform will enable customers to choose the interior, hardware parts and other "contents" of their vehicle.

Along with its iconic kinetic headlamp, the 45 drew attention with the flat floor inside the vehicle, which Hyundai Design Center head Lee Sang-yup said allows passengers to feel as though the seats and other interior objects were like living room furniture.

At the show, Hyundai also unveiled the Veloster N ETCR, which is the company's first electric race car developed by Hyundai Motorsport GmbH. The car is targeting Electric Touring Car Racing series, which is expected to take place next year.

Also introduced at the show was the new i10, the Tucson N Line, the i30 N Fastback.

During his visit, Chung did not host sessions or give a speech about the car, but the group said he attended the show to grasp the current trend of the global automotive market as well as highlight the design philosophy of the company's EVs.

"With the global car market being all about EVs, fuel-cell EVs and other eco-friendly cars these days, Chung visited the event to grasp the fast changing market trend of the global car market and other automakers' efforts to make green cars," a Hyundai Motor Group official said.
