Samsung SDS unveiled Brightics Studio, an artificial intelligence (AI) technology-based data analysis platform, during a conference, Thursday.
The IT service arm of Samsung Group inaugurated the Samsung SDS Techtonic 2018 developer conference at its headquarters in Jamsil, southeastern Seoul.
Samsung launched its Brightics AI data-processing software in June 2017. To expand its coverage to more areas, it introduced an open source version of the Brightics AI platform, Brightics Studio.
Samsung SDS said Brightics AI is a useful tool for the manufacturing, marketing and logistics industries as it can analyze and visualize large volumes of data using AI technology.
The firm said the open source version is available to anyone starting Thursday. Using Brightics Studio, users can start data analysis processes on their laptops even if they are not IT experts.
Samsung SDS said this is the first time for the firm to host such a conference. The firm shared its latest accomplishments in AI, blockchain and internet of things (IoT) technologies. About 1,000 participants comprised of IT developers and university and graduate school students joined the conference.
Samsung SDS CEO Hong Won-pyo said the firm plans to host the conference on a regular basis.
"Global IT firms such as Samsung Electronics, Google and Microsoft have hosted developer conferences for years to contribute to the vitalization of the world's IT ecosystem," Hong said. "We plan to host the conference on a regular basis to strength IT developers' capabilities and contribute to the vitalization of the IT ecosystem."
Yoon Shim, senior vice president of Samsung SDS, delivered a keynote speech on the theme "technology innovation ― partner, disrupt, foresee."
Kim Young-gun, a member of the board of directors at Python Software Foundation, also shared his thoughts about changes to the open source development ecosystem.
To increase information exchange, Samsung SDS already sponsored the OKKYCON 2018 developer conference, hosted on Oct. 18 by OKKY, Korea's largest online community for software developers. The firm added another conference, Agile Korea Conference 2018, will also be held at its headquarters on Nov. 23.
