Mercedes-Benz Korea has introduced the GLC Coupe sport utility vehicle (SUV), Thursday, aiming to expand its presence in the nation's stuffed mid-size luxury SUV market.
Initially unveiled during the 2016 New York International Motor Show, the GLC Coupe has been a long-awaited mid-size SUV model here for its stylish design and sporty driving performance.
Compared to its sister model GLC SUV, the GLC Coupe features a sleek and sporty design with 7.6 centimeter longer overhang and ground height lower by 3.8 centimeters.
The GLC Coupe's design philosophy is also similar to that of the Mercedes-Benz C200 Coupe.
The C200 Coupe's arched roofline and masculine D-pillar combined with horizontally extended light-emitting diode rear lamps were well-received especially by young motorists. The model led Mercedes' outstanding performance last year.
To meet Korean customers' tastes in sporty design and dynamic performance, Mercedes-Benz Korea said it offers the AMG package, which comes with a large-size air intake and side skirts along with a pair of square-shaped tailpipes across the GLC Coupe lineup.
It mounts a 2.2-liter in-line four cylinder diesel engine in the GLC 220d 4Matic and GLC 250d 4Matic. The 4Matic is the German luxury carmaker's all-time all-wheel drive system.
The model in either trim level can get more than 12 kilometers per liter.
The AMG GLC Coupe 43 4Matic, the highest trim level of the model, mounts the carmaker's latest 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine that produces a maximum of 367 horsepower with 53.0 kg/m torque. It only takes 4.9 seconds to reach 100 kilometers per hour.
The model also features Mercedes-Benz's latest drive assistance technologies that include radar cruise control to keep drivers a safe distance from the vehicle in front, blind-spot warnings and lane-keeping functionality to ensure the vehicle stays in the center of the lane, along with automated braking if a frontal crash is detected.
The GLC Coupe 220d 4Matic is priced at 73.2 million won while the GLC Coupe 250d 4Matic is 80.1 million won. The price of the AMG GLC Coupe 43 4Matic has yet to be announced.
