Samsung Electronics has stepped up efforts to boost pre-orders of its upcoming flagship Galaxy S8 smartphone.
According to the electronics industry, Tuesday, the tech giant plans to disclose the subsidy information to early bird customers and let them use the high-end phone in advance.
Samsung is scheduled to unveil its latest smartphone on March 29, holding an unpacking event in New York. Pre-orders for the handset will be available from April 7 to 17 across the nation before its official launch set for April 21.
It also plans to run tryout zones at 4,000 retail shops across the nation as part of the sales campaign.
Last August, Samsung also notified pre-ordering customers of the subsidy information of the Galaxy Note 7 _ something uncommon in the cell phone industry _ to attract those who were hesitant to buy the jumbo smartphone.
More notable is that its loyal customers can activate their brand new smartphone ahead of those who purchase them after they hit the shelves.
Samsung will begin to ship the Galaxy S8 to pre-order customers on April 18 _ one day after the pre-order period.
"Given the pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 7 topped 400,000 units for 13 days last year, those of the S8 is expected to amount to the figure or even surpass it," an official of the electronics industry said.
Also on Tuesday, Samsung unveiled a new teaser for its new smartphone carrying the Korean slogan "Completion and a New Start."
"It is aimed at promoting the new device and will deliver never-seen-before experiences," the firm said.
On Monday, Samsung said that it plans to use its artificial intelligence program Bixby in the Galaxy S8 and other home appliances.
"Bixby will be our first step on a journey to completely open up new ways of interacting with your phone. At the launch of the Galaxy S8, a subset of preinstalled applications will be Bixby-enabled," said Rhee In-jong, head of R&D for software and services at Samsung Electronics.
"This set will continue to expand over time. Our plan is to eventually release a tool in the software development kit to enable third-party developers to make their applications and services Bixby-enabled easily."
