직장인 응원백태…아침부터 '치맥'도
Can Korea repeat its 2002 World Cup glory? That would have been one of the last things to cross the minds of Korean fans. Their team’s lackluster performance in warm-up matches was a sobering experience, to say the least. Twenty-two years ago, the team advanced to the semifinals but settled for fourth place after losing to Turkey. Brazil was the champion and Germany the runne...

Quenching more than thirst
From FISHING BOAT, Jindo - It was about 7 a.m. Monday. Four photographers including this reporter rented a boat to get near the site where the ferry Sewol sank. An armada of ships, small boats and dinghies were scattered throughout the area. The sea was calm, making one wonder if it was the same sea that had engulfed hundreds of students.

New vision for an old city
New vision for an old city
When Korea was in the midst of its 1960s construction craze, when highways and civic megaliths reassured people of industrialization in progress, only a few recognized the stupidity of putting major roads in the hearts of cities. Half a century later, the country is showing urgency in removing the brutal structures of the past. It took 45 days for Seoul City to destroy the 46...

Spring like summer with cherry blossoms
The blooming of cherry blossoms tempts us to believe that winter is finally over and spring is upon us. Sometimes, we are betrayed by what is felt like a seasonal revenge or "ggotsaem chuwi," literally meaning "flower jealousy cold."
