Saluting every soldier
Last week, the 4th Stryker Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) became the last unit to leave Iraq ― ending Operation Iraqi Freedom that had dragged on since 2003 and cost the lives of more than 4,400 U.S. soldiers. In an effort to honor the contributions of the men and women in uniform, as well as to mark the fulfillment of President Obama's promise to withdraw U.S. co...

Korea’s Digital IQ
With South Korea blocking North Korea’s newly opened Twitter feed, the never-ending war between the two Koreas seems to now have shifted its arena from the Yellow Sea onto the World Wide Web ― at least instigators worldwide think so.

Little Boy and the Fat Man
On Aug. 8, 2010, thousands of Japanese children gathered at the Nagasaki Peace Park and lit nearly 5,000 handmade candles at 7p.m., to pray for peace and the elimination of nuclear weapons. Reportedly, many wrote, ``Let's bring peace to Earth” on their candles, and hoped that ``people in the world will remember that the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki.''

When people remember 7/27
I’ll never forget the magnificent sight of all fifty flags around the Washington Memorial displayed at half-staff, majestically flapping against the evening breeze on July 27, 2009.

Resolved — significance of 60
The news of President Obama's signing of a Congressional joint resolution that recognizes the 60th anniversary of the Korean War and reaffirms the U.S-Korea alliance sorely sank below the announcement of U.N. Security Council's condemning of the Cheonan naval sinking.

People behind the Memorials
It's always a great honor to salute the tattooed bikers clad in leather vests, who roll into town like thunder for their annual ``Run for the Wall," the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, during the Memorial Day weekend in Washington, D.C.

Silver lining in Cheonan
Replacing the image of the youngest sailor ― who at 19 died in the sinking of the naval ship Cheonan on March 26 ― with the face of my own 18-year-old ``baby'' brother's makes me shudder with fear, anger and sympathy.

Orphans on Children’s Day
In a perfect world, there would be no orphans. Every single one of the world's 2.2 billion children would be doted upon by their parents. And every day would be like May 5 in South Korea when nearly 8 million kids are sure to be spoiled on the national holiday set aside as Children's Day.

Global Family on Earth
The very first Earth Day on April 22, 1970 drew support from one out of 10 Americans, Republicans and Democrats alike, from farms to cities, rich and poor, all who simply shared a common desire for a healthy and sustainable Earth.
