South Korea, which made it to the round of 16 for the first time on foreign soil, will take on Uruguay on Saturday for a ticket to the World Cup quarterfinals.
With a 2-2 draw with Nigeria in the last group match on Tuesday, South Korea stood at second after Argentina in Group B standings to advance to the knockout stage with four points.
It will have its first second round match against Uruguay, who finished first in Group A without a defeat, on Saturday at 11 p.m. in Korean standard time at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.
The South Korean team is going back to Port Elizabeth, where it had its first group match against Greece and won 2-0.
The South American team, which stands 16th in world football rankings, holds a 4-0 edge overall against South Korea, including a 1-0 win in the 1990 World Cup first round.
In 2002, the Asian team beat Italy in the second round with a game-winning goal in extra time, before nudging Spain in a penalty shootout in the quarterfinals.
