Figure Skater Kim Captures Title With New Record

World champion Kim Yu-na of South Korea has captured the Trophee Bompard women's event, winning the free skate with a flawless performance to finish ahead of Japanese skaters Mao Asada and Yukari Nakano, the Associated Press reported in Paris.

Performing to George Gershwin's "Piano Concerto in F Major," Yu-na received 133.95 points for a total of 210.03 that included Friday's short program.

Kim set her two world records in the season opening event -- the free skate and the total. The previous record in total was 207.71 that she herself also set in world championship on March 28-29 in the United States and that in the free skating was 133.70 which she also set at the 2007-08 season Cup of Russia.

Asada, a former world champion, rose one spot to second overall with 173.99 points. Nakano finished third with 165.70 points.

Kim’s performance was nearly perfect, except the triple flip jump she failed to perform due to missing of the timing. As a result, she even lost the base point of 5 in the triple flip jump.

But Kim did all the other jumps without flaw ? triple lutz-triple toe loop combination, double axel-double toe loop-double loop, double axel-triple toe loop, triple salchow, triple lutz and double axel, according to experts.

Kim has got to an excellent start in the opener of the 2009-2010 Grand Prix series of figure skating, In the Trophee Bompard event, Kim showed the possibility that she would be able to win the highlight of the season, the Winter Olympics which will be scheduled to be held in February next year in Vancouver.

Meanwhile, Asada failed to perform smoothly axel jumps, with which she intended to knock out the Korean female figure skating queen. She failed to take off in her second axel jump and also put down her hand in landing after her final double axel jump, where she even lost one point. She won 115.03. The third placer gained 106.06.
