BNP Paribas is participating in the 22nd Seoul International Women's Film Festival as an official sponsor, in efforts to discover more female talent and help raise voices against gender inequality in the film industry, the French-based global banking group said Friday.
The company has stood at the forefront of supporting the global film industry, and it has supported the festival for the second consecutive year since 2019.
It will also support the BNP Paribas Asian Short Award during the event. This is a competition section for short films made by Asian women, according to the company. A record 820 films from 54 countries were submitted for this year's festival.
BNP Paribas also sponsored the film "WOMAN," directed by Anastasia Mikova and Yann Arthus-Bertrand, which will have its Korean premiere during the festival. The film includes the voices of more than 2,000 women in more than 50 countries, and shows their determination to change the world despite the difficulties they face.
"We are very pleased to continue our sponsorship of the Seoul International Women's Film Festival for the second year," said Philippe Noirot, head of BNP Paribas Korea.
"BNP Paribas is committed to fight gender inequalities and support development of the cultural aspects of the society. The Korean film industry is internationally renowned and through our sponsorship, we hope to further show our support for women and help them take a step forward to break the glass ceiling and build their status in the Korean film industry."
The support is part of BNP Paribas' group-wide efforts to raise awareness of gender equality. In December 2019, the group joined a campaign to support gender equality by not participating in public or media events with more than three speakers if there were no women among the speakers.
