A rare Amazonian fish known for eating the testicles of swimmers and fishermen has been caught in a New Jersey lake.
Ron Rossi and his son Frank caught the fish, nicknamed “the Nutcracker,” while fishing at a man-made lake.
The creature’s peculiar human-like teeth fascinated the men, so they researched the animal, thinking it was a piranha.
They later realized it was the rare pacu, a native of Brazil known for eating testicles.
The bizarre fish can grow up to four-feet. It uses its powerful teeth to crush food that falls into the Amazon River.
The species’ worldwide popularity as a pet has seen pacu found in Paris, Scandinavia and Oceania.
Some experts worry that the fish may endanger the local fauna. They encourage people humanely to destroy the creatures, rather than dump them in waterways.
