Bigger smartphones use more data and people hold them longer, according to research reported by a local newspaper.

Based on worldwide data, analysts compared minutes of use and used data to different screen sizes.

The researchers found that users spent more time with their smartphones when the screens measured 5.5 inches or more across than if the screens measured less than 4.5 inches.

Bigger smartphones also used more data because the screens need higher resolution to produce video output.

Global market advisory company IHS and mobile data solution provider Mobidia Technology analyzed more than 25 smartphone models.

They included those from Apple, HTC, Samsung and Sony made in the last one-to-four years and with screen sizes between 3.5 and 5.7 inches.
