LG Electronics' "back-to-the-basics" mobile strategy is succeeding, with its latest flagship V30 smartphone recording robust pre-orders here.

The company launched the six-inch handset last month that features many enhanced basic, user-friendly functions for the camera, audio and display.

According to the industry, daily V30 pre-orders reached as high as 15,000 here between Sept. 14 and 20, up 50 percent on the G6 smartphone introduced in February.

This is raising expectations that the new V series will become a savior to drive up the sagging mobile unit of the electronics giant.

Analysts attributed the robust market response to the firm's efforts to build its own mobile identity, which started with the G6.

The V30 comes with an 18:9 ratio organic light-emitting-diode (OLED) display, the same proportion as the G6. The new ratio is far from that of its major competitors, but the company adopted it to offer a more stable and convenient viewing experience.

A downside of LG smartphones has been its weak brand identity. But users here and abroad say the company is on track to shape its own mobile identity with the improved user-friendliness of its premium smartphones. The V30 is similar to the G6 in design and other key features such as the upscale camera.

The company adopted the six-inch display to join the global trend for large displays. It is the biggest display used for its flagship devices. This is aimed at meeting smartphone user needs for banking, networking and entertainment.

Despite the large screen, the company succeeded in minimizing the handset weight and size. The V30 weighs 158 grams and is 7.3 millimeters thick. LG also reduced the bezel by 20 percent and 50 percent at top and bottom, respectively, compared with its predecessor the V20.

Samsung Electronics' flagship Galaxy S8 and Note 8 come with almost no bezel, while the V30 has a slim bezel on each edge of its display. In terms of design, the bezel-less screen looks more sophisticated but has drawn some complaints because users can unintentionally touch the display's edges while holding their device.

"The V30 was designed to delight people's senses of sight, sound and touch," an LG official said. "In particular, we are attracting favorable market responses with the V30 for its basic and user-friendly functionalities. The device will help us tighten a foothold in the premium smartphone market."

LG has also sought to differentiate its smartphone business by focusing on generating outstanding images. The V30 features the industry's first F1.6 aperture and glass lens, which the company says can help users snap expert-level photos and film quality videos.

The F1.6 aperture lens can particularly capture more light for brighter shots as well as deliver more accurate and vivid images than conventional plastic lenses, according to the company.

The V30 also boasts a "Cine Video" mode, allowing users to shoot professional photos with ease.

The Cine Effect features 15 auto-settings to film diverse genres — ranging from romantic comedy and blockbusters to thrillers.

The device is also equipped with a much-touted "point zoom" function, allowing users to zoom in and out easily in the cine-video mode.

"All the camera features can generate best-ever visual outcomes when combined with our quad-high-definition OLED FullVision display," the LG official said.
