Galaxy Note 7 has hit a supply snag after being involved in an "explosion" controversy, with some retail stores failing to receive planned supplies from Samsung Electronics, a source said Wednesday.

"Note 7 supplies, scheduled on Wednesday, will be delayed until as early as Friday over a quality issue," a telecom industry source said, requesting anonymity.

The issue emerged last week when some domestic and overseas Note 7 users uploaded pictures and videos of the new Samsung flagship handset having exploded for no confirmed reason.

The source said chances are the Note 7 supply can be further postponed, citing the mounting controversy over the explosion issue.

"No specific reasons were given, but the Note 7 supply has been suspended at the moment. We should wait until further notice," said the official.

Samsung Electronics has yet to give its official position.

A Samsung spokesman said: "We are going to announce details over the issue soon."
