AhnLab, the computer security software provider, said Thursday that it has put together an education course to train more software specialists.
The company has run the 10-week software education program since September especially for female jobseekers as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) drive.
AhnLab said a total of 135 students have attended the AhnLab Software Education Manager (SEM) Academy, with 86 of them receiving certificates based on their attendance rate, task performance and teaching skills. The training course consists of three levels including basic, advanced and a hardware-software converged program, according to the company. It added that those who failed to receive certificates can apply for the course again.
The move came as the nation's science ministry has picked software education as one of the nation's future growth engines. Last month, Minister Choi Yang-hee of Science, ICT and Future Planning called for closer ties between universities and enterprises to produce more professional talent in software.
"Software education is very meaningful, as software and networks are the keywords to define the IT world of the future," said In Chee-beom, director at AhnLab's communications division.
He added AhnLab SEM Academy participants are expected to raise awareness of software education here, thereby helping build networks for software-oriented education ecosystems across Korean society.
AhnLab provides education facilities and all costs for the weeks-long education program, partnering with a local venture company which provides education content and software instructors.
AhnLab was established in 1995 by entrepreneur-turned-politician Ahn Cheol-soo. The company has since remained one of the nation's industry leaders in antivirus and online security software.
