SK Telecom said Thursday it has signed an agreement with RoboBuilder to cooperate in the research and development of robots using 5G communications technology.
The agreement calls for SKT and RoboBuilder, a Korean firm specialized in robots, to develop robots and related technologies.
The 5G humanoid robot is a concept-robot that shows how the 5G technologies can be used in people's everyday lives.
"The robot senses the controller's movement to exactly reproduce the movements of the person in real time," it said in a statement.
The robot can also be used at disaster scenes in the near future.
The two companies will work together to develop various robot-related technologies ― remote control, preventive disaster and artificial intelligence technologies.
They plan to develop robots which will be able to work at disaster sites such as nuclear power plant accidents, and play a role as traffic policemen.
"We will continuously work together with small and medium-sized companies and developers to enhance customers' experience through this 5G technology," said SK Telecom Chief Technology Officer Choi Jin-sung.
