LG Display said Monday it will showcase advanced display products and new technologies at an international display fair.
During the International Meeting of Information Display (IMID) Exhibition that will run from Tuesday to Thursday at the KINTEX, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, the company will unveil 22 new items, including curved organic light-emitting diode (OLED) television panels with ultra high-definition resolution and 1.3-inch round-type plastic OLED products optimized for wearable devices.
"We will concentrate on OLED products and our unique and advanced touch screen technology at this year's exhibition as our two main segments," an LG Display official said. "We believe the two will demonstrate our technological excellence that differentiates us from other companies."
Choi Dong-won, senior vice president of promotion at LG Display, is scheduled to speak about the value for customers that will accompany the advance of ultra high-definition technology in his keynote speech. This will take place at a seminar titled: IMID Display Business Forum 2014, which will be held on the sideline of the exhibition, Tuesday.
At the exhibition, the company will present diverse display panels for mobile smart devices, ranging from smartphones with about 5-inch displays to tablet computers with a larger 7-inch screen, all equipped with touch screen technology dubbed "Advanced In-cell Touch."
According to the company, new technology has improved touch sensitivity which can support high resolutions without adding more electric circuits. Thanks to this, display bezels in each side can be minimized to less than 1mm.
LG Display's bezel technology called "Narrow Bezel" will be applied to panels for monitors and laptops, 98-inch blackboard screens and full high-definition and 55-inch transparent displays.
The technology, which the company claims to the world's best, will be shown during the exhibition on the three-dimensional video wall that has only a 3.5mm slim bezel on its sides.
In the liquid crystal display (LCD) segment, LG Display will bring curved televisions with different sizes ranging from 105 inches to 55 inches, as well as a 34-inch one with 21:9 screen ratios that is perfect for movies and video games.
It will also introduce various panel products for more diverse uses. These include high-definition display panels for next-generation automobiles and panels for mobile devices with high-definition and ultra high-definition.
Samsung sets for curved screens
Samsung Display said Monday that it will present its advanced technology for curved and flexible displays at the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID), beginning Tuesday
At the display forum to be held in KINTEX, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, Samsung Display plans to unveil 55 to 78-inch curved ultra-high definition (UHD) TVs with a 3840 x 2160 resolution, as well as 27- and 34-inch monitors with curved Edge display, used in Samsung Electronics' latest flagship, Galaxy Note Edge.
The company's curved UHD display has a curvature of 4000R, which gives a wider field of view than flat panels, drawing viewers in, according to Samsung Display.
"With this advanced technology, Samsung has applied curved display into computer monitors, as well as TVs. The curved monitor will increase work efficiency," said Samsung Display's spokesman.
The world's third largest display maker will exhibit various kinds of flexible displays, including the curved Edge display, along with a curved Super Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diodes (AMOLED) display, which is used for Samsung's wearable devices - Galaxy Gear Fin and Gear S. The display shows 300 pixels per inch, although it is flexible.
The company will also run its own OLED screen zone to exhibit its Quad HD OLED products such as 5.1-inch to 14-inch screens, which are applied to various devices such as smartphones, and tablet PCs.
Samsung Display's OLED realizes 100 percent of the color standard of Adobe RGB, and it is 70 percent more than the liquid crystal display (LCD) can realize.
The OLED display is used for Samsung's newest flagship Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Tab S in 5.7-inch and 10.5-inch screens.
Along with the SID Display Week in the U.S. and International Display Workshops in Japan, IMID is one of the top three information display conferences, offering the opportunity to view the trends for IT and electronics products and research.
The conference is a rallying point for more than 100 IT companies from around the world to showcase their technologies.
