Toilet paper on which an English translation of a “horror” short story is printed will be exported to foreign countries, the Asahi Shimbun published in Japan reported Friday.
Part of the short story “Drop” by Koji Suzuki was translated into English. The horror film, “Ring,” is based on another novel by Suzuki.
Hiroyuki Hayashi, president of Hayashi paper-manufacturing company, met Suzuki several times and encouraged the writer to join hands to make “the most frightening toilet paper in the world,” according to the report. The setting of Suzuki’s short story is a public restroom.
A toilet roll on which English translation of the short story is printed is priced at 210 yen (3,000 won), 10 times higher than ordinary toilet paper.
But the toilet paper has become a hot seller. It has sold as many as 300,000 rolls since it was put on sale three years ago, Asahi said.
