It shows the shadow of the U.S. space agency’s Opportunity Rover at the end of its 2,888th day on the Red Planet. The snap was taken in March but released by NASA last week, and shows the late afternoon sun setting the crater aglow, The Sun reported Saturday.

The view is presented in false colors to highlight the crater’s different features and the snap is made of various smaller images taken by the rover’s panoramic camera, according to the report.

The solar-powered, six-wheeled rover continues to send stunning pictures back to Earth more than eight years after landing on the Red Planet in 2004 ― even though its mission was originally only supposed to last 90 days.

After nearly five months in one spot, the tireless rover is on the roll again to explore more rocks.
