Giant mirror in space?
People might one day see a giant mirror in the sky as a means to fight against global warming. The United Nations (UN) has projected a giant “sun reflector” to be under discussion at an international meeting on climate change. Britain’s daily Guardian reported that this is one of the ideas to be presented on the agenda before a meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Peru late this week. The daily reported that about 60 scientists from all over the world will presented a variety of ideas to stop the worsening global warming. One of the ideas in the files of the U.N. is to launch the ‘sun reflector,’ sending several giant mirrors into the sky in order to reflect some of the rays from the sun into space. But it is pointed out that the reflector would cost huge amount of money and the artificial change of the natural phenomenon might create adverse effect on Earth, according to the daily. Other ideas include changing the color of roads and roofs into white, encouraging brighter colored crops to avoid earth’s absorption of sun ray and making rain clouds from sea water to cool down earth’s temperature. With the leak of information, the group finds it difficult to avoid criticism even before the official meeting opens. “The report is only theoretical, nothing is official yet,’ said an IPCC official. |
